Smyth – Ruth Ellen (née Kilrea)

April 19, 1947 – October 13, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth Ellen Smyth (née Kilrea). She leaves behind her beloved daughter Kerry (Bram van Tol) as well as her pride and joy, her grandchildren Marissa and Mark. She also leaves her two brothers Wayne Kilrea (Nancy), Byron Kilrea (Neil) along with her two brothers-in-law Keith Smyth (the late Geraldine) and Kenneth Smyth (Frances), and her aunt, Helen Caldwell, whose bond will never end even with her passing. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins who loved her. Predeceased by her loving husband, Kirk; her parents, Eva Jane Boyd and Arthur James Kilrea; her sister-in-law, Kathleen (the late Gordon Barnes); and, her cousin, Arlene Cole (the late Maxwell Cook).

Ruth worked as an Executive Secretary with several organizations not only in Ottawa but also Calgary and Germany following her husband’s military career. After her husband’s retirement, Ruth was by his side as he traveled the world as a curling ice technician. We would like to thank Ruth’s wonderful family and friends for all their love and support.
