It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Robert Hutchings on May 15, 2022 in Ottawa, surrounded by loved ones.
He leaves behind his children, Stephen (Christine), Kim (Clyde), Catherine, Roxanne (Peter) and Stuart; his grandchildren, Robert, Laura, Monica, Candice, Caroline, Katie, Marina, Graham and Nadine; and his great grandchildren, Owen, Emmet, Penny, Lucy and Leyland.
His beloved wife Juliet predeceased him by 10 years.
Robert managed to work his way up through the jewellery trade, from a watchmaker’s apprentice at 14 in England, to an internationally recognized Designer and Gemologist, winning the DeBeer’s diamond award in 1970. His creative output also included sculptures and paintings, leaving his family a rich legacy to remember him by.
As an avid sportsman, he loved sailing, tennis, running and table tennis; and as a devoted husband and father, he always led by cheerful and optimistic example.
We will miss his wholehearted presence in our lives.
Visitation will be held at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Road, Ottawa (at Roosevelt.) on Sunday, May 29, 2022, from noon until time of service in the chapel at 2 p.m. Reception to follow.
