Richard Deane

Richard Emile Deane (Rich) age 49 of Ottawa passed away on April 15/21.

Celebration and Burial will occur at Highland Park Cemetery on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 12:30 p.m.

The celebration of life will be held at a time when Rich’s friends can gather safely in large numbers outdoors and dance and listen to his favorite songs.

Rich came to TCE in 92 and seldom was there a day without a memorable moment. All his friends in other agencies can take solace in knowing his passing was nothing like his day-to-day living, it was quiet and peaceful.

To say Rich was mischievous would not do his jovial personality justice. He never failed to garner great emotions from the staff that had the pleasure of working with him. Many left shift with tears of joy, others, simply with tears of why me, after being the brunt of one of his pranks.

His dance moves are legendary as were his hugs and smiles.

Through the years many many staff were fortunate to assist and support Rich with a quality of life that he had communicated as being important to him. He was blessed that many staff at TCE and OCL engaged and assisted him in learning valuable skills.

However, our fondest reminder of what Rich leaves us is what he taught us.

Rich is a shining example to us in congregate settings that if you take the time through respect, trust and understanding you are given the honor of learning more than you teach. Rich showed many of us the power and blessing in building relationships and focusing on strengths and capabilities and not limitations or diagnosis.

He is greatly missed already and will continue to be so, but we are fortunate and privileged to have be able to walk these steps with him in a part of his journey.
