Mona Neil

July 12, 1924 — August 30, 2021

Mona Estelle Neil (nee Turner)

Peacefully at home with family at the age of 97.  Beloved wife of the late George Neil, and wonderful, industrious Mom to Donna, Jane (Larry Monaghan) and Gary (Beth). Dear Nana to Turner, Jaime, Madelyne and Jenna. Predeceased by her mother and father, Kathleen Sparks and Walter (aka George) Turner as well as sisters and brothers Marion Ritchie, Sybil Murphy, Barbara d'Entremont, Gordon Turner and Bobby Turner.

Raised in McKellar Park, Mona attended Broadview Public School and Nepean High School. She graduated from McMaster University in 1946 and spent most of her working life at E.B Eddy Company before becoming a homemaker.  She enjoyed lots of golf with George in their 50's and through his retirement years.

Mona was her own person, and she was neither susceptible to flattery nor prone to exaggeration. She was always discreet. After his passing, she would often say "Your father was the funny one."  But that isn't entirely true. She was energetic to the end, and always up for just about anything.

Mona and George enjoyed a full and enviable social life with friends and family.  They always maintained close relationships with their siblings.  They enjoyed summers at the cottage built by George and his sister Jean, with the help of friends, shortly before George and Mona met.

Mona would very often remark on how fortunate she was to be so happy in her life.

The family thanks those in community care who helped to make it possible for Mom to be at home. A special thanks to Josephine (aka Joy) of Carefor who visited with Mom several times weekly over recent years and did so with kindness, understanding and a joyful manner.

And thank you to our neighbour and friend, Rev. George Clifford, for coming over at the time of Mom’s passing and saying a prayer for Mom and our family.

A family celebration of life will take place at a later date.
