Leona Bolivar

October 29, 1932 — April 27, 2023

Leona Bolivar passed away on April 27th, 2023 only a few months after a grand celebration of her 90th birthday.  She passed with dignity, on her own terms, with her four sons present. Leona was pre-deceased by her husband Bob following 63 years of marriage.  She is survived by her sons Roddy (Michelle, Kelly-Anne and Cory), Dale, Glen (Julie, Sarah, Rachel and Ariane) and David (Joanne, Brent and Jenna).

Leona was born and raised on a farm in Saskatchewan.  Following their marriage in Edmonton Leona and Bob found their way to Ottawa.  Her work raising four boys was mixed in with many travel adventures.  From a rustic fly-in survey camp in northern British Columbia to a few years when the whole family lived in Ecuador to her time with Bob in Indonesia to name just a few.

Leona continued to play her favourite game Bridge up until only a few weeks before passing.  Some of her best friendships and so many of her good memories came from her love of the people and the game.

Leona and Bob enjoyed their golden years tending to a flower garden adjacent to the NCC bike path near their condo building.  Many would stop to enjoy the flowers and share a friendly chat.  To recognize their contribution to the community, the City of Ottawa placed a bench with a dedication plaque overlooking their garden.

In memory of Leona and her love of the outdoors, please consider making a donation to the Ottawa Field-Naturalists’ Club Fletcher Wildlife Garden.
