Karol Syliwoniuk

SYLIWONIUK, Karol

January 6, 1924 – November 23, 2019

Much loved and devoted father of Carolyn (Rick Shelley), and proud and loving grandfather of Ben. Predeceased by his wife Sophia (Ramarr) in 2014. Karol was born in Malaszewicze Duze, Poland. In February 1948, he arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, after having travelled across the Atlantic on the USS General S.D. Sturgis. Karol then made his way to Noranda, in Northwestern Quebec, where he had accepted a position as a hard rock miner at the Waite Amulet Mines. Eventually, he started working at Noranda Mines, where he worked in the Sample Mill for 40 years. In 1996, Karol and Sophia moved to Ottawa to be closer to their family. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 7th at the Tubman Funeral Homes, Garden Chapel, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean (between Bayshore and Baseline Rd) from 10 – 11 a.m. Funeral Service to follow in the Chapel at 11 am.
