THORSLUND, David Carl 1931-2023

David passed away on May 26, 2023, just short of his 92nd birthday. He was a devoted husband to Patricia, who passed away in 2022. He is lovingly remembered and survived by sons Keith (Lynda), Derek (Janet), Craig, and grandchildren Zach, Kiah, Brenna, Jeff, Aisha, Neil, Luke. He is also survived by his sister Edith (Bob) and was predeceased by his sisters Lillian, Alice, and Eleanor.

Born in Gananoque, David lived in Montreal most of his childhood and younger adult years before moving to Ottawa in 1977. He started his career as a phone installer for Bell. While there, he earned a Bachelor of Science at Sir George Williams University. He moved into management at Bell where he spent the remainder of his 35-year career in many interesting roles. David kept very active and busy. He was a devoted father to his three sons, and was very involved in their activities. He was a long-time and well-liked Wolf Cub Akela and enthusiastic “hockey dad”. He was also active himself – sailing, skiing, biking, squash, and aquafit. In later years, he and Patricia traveled extensively. They were also loving grandparents - outfitting their Grandview Rd. home with toys and books to be welcoming to their grandkids for overnights and weekends, and sometimes longer. David and Patricia lived at the Redwoods Retirement Home for the last seven years. A special thank you to all the staff that cared for and enhanced his life with kindness in the last few years to allow him to live with dignity and as independently as possible.

Visitation will be held at Tubman Funeral Homes, Garden Chapel, 3440 Richmond Road, on Monday June 12th, from 11am to 12pm. Chapel service will be held at 12pm, with a reception to follow.
