It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, William (Bill) Lawrence Sprott, at the age of 94, on Friday, March 1, 2024.
Bill was predeceased by his parents (Victor and Sadie Sprott), mother-in-law (Jean Lamartine), father-in-law (Gert Lamartine), and sisters (Wilda and Enid).
Bill spent his formative years in Montreal, attending McGill University and earning a degree in Dental Medicine (DDS). After graduation, he married Ruth (Lamartine) and together they moved to Ottawa to begin their life together. As Bill grew his dental practice, he and Ruth expanded their family – welcoming five children in nine years. During those years he also served as a Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Ottawa and a President of the Rideau Kiwanis Club.
Bill was completely devoted to his wife and family. He also loved his cottage on Pike Lake, near Perth, Ontario. The cottage was a place that drew his ever-expanding family together over many years. There he shared with his whole family his love, warmth, keen sense of humour, love of nature and imaginative story telling. He made each and every one of us feel special, which was a true gift.
Bill will be greatly missed by his loving and devoted wife, Ruth; his children, Nancy (Peter), Carol (Allan), Jane (Bob), David (Val) and Peter (Kerry); his grandchildren, Andrew, Alan, Chris, Alex, Kevin, Mike, Jennie, Erica, Steven, Stephanie, Matthew, Marissa, Austen and their partners; and his great-grandchildren, Colin, Lauren, Chelsea, Celeste, Wesley, Sydney and Mila. He will also be remembered by his brothers-in-law, Ralph (Elisabeth) Lamartine and Richard Lamartine, and his nieces and nephews.
Thank you to the caring and compassionate staff at Park Place Seniors’ Suites and St. Elizabeth Health Care. We are forever grateful for the kindness and respect you showed Bill over the last 5 years.
A family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Bill’s name to BGC Ottawa. Tributes, donations, and condolences may be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com
