Vickie was born in Ottawa, Ontario, on December 6, 1955, and raised in Russell. From an early age, she demonstrated a caring and compassionate nature that would become a defining part of her life.
During her teen years, Vickie worked as a lifeguard before pursuing her calling in nursing. She graduated from Ottawa Civic Hospital as a Registered Nurse in 1976 and went on to dedicate 34 years of service to the hospital. Throughout her nursing career, she worked in the Maternity Ward, Operating Room, and the Cardiac Operating Room at the Heart Institute.
Caring for others was more than just her profession; it was who she was. Vickie lovingly cared for her mother until her passing in 1996 and continued to care for her father for many years until his passing in 2020. Her dedication, compassion, and selflessness were evident in every aspect of her life.
Vickie will be remembered as an amazing caregiver, sister, aunt, loyal friend, and someone who could always be counted on. Her kindness, generosity, and devotion to those she loved touched many lives. She always found time to chat on the phone if one of the kids needed a kind word and delighted in sending along little (and sometimes big!) prezzies when she felt an occasion warranted it. She leaves behind a legacy of caring that will not be forgotten.
Vickie was predeceased by her mother Colette (1996), father Fred (2020), brother Paul (2006), and nephew Kevin (2020).
She will be lovingly remembered by her sister Karen Woolsey (John), niece Danielle, brother Frank (Anna), nephew Eric (Rebecca), niece Kristi (Dean), and Paul’s children Sarah and Kyle, along with great nieces and nephew Maggie, Nash, Reese and Hadley and her dear friends Pauline and Doug, Brenda and Nancy.
Cremation has taken place and no funeral or memorial service will be held, as Vickie requested.
Thank you to all the devoted and caring medical professionals who cared for Vickie with such compassion in her last days.
Vickie will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Donations can be made in Vickie’s honour to a charity of choice.
