DUNLAP, Theresa Anne
After a very long and happy life, Theresa Anne passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Friday, March 31 at the age of 92. She was predeceased by Harry, her beloved husband of 67 years. She is survived by her six dear children: Hal (Susy), Terry (Mary), Paula, Mary Anne (Torindo), Kathy (Roger), and Peter (Sue); thirteen wonderful grandchildren: Rob (Julia), Maddie (Rob), Heather, Charlotte, Sean (Kizil), Harry, Sebastian, Emily (Matt), Michael (Sophie), Joseph, Susy (Jeff), Tessa and Sam; and four cherished great grandchildren: George, Ben, Charlotte and Lucy.
Theresa Anne was born in Ottawa on August 3rd 1930 to George and Gertrude Terry. She was predeceased by her siblings Rosemary, Paul and Patricia. She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, in-laws and friends.
Theresa Anne attended Corpus Christi School in the Glebe where she met Harry in grade 7. She graduated from Immaculata High School in 1948 and she and Harry were married at Blessed Sacrament Church on December 27th 1952. Together they raised their six children in Lynwood Village where they were very proud to be a founding family.
Our mother was a woman of great faith and a wonderful example to her beloved family. Her passion and unconditional love was a constant in our lives. Her door was always open. Family members from all generations visited her often and shared their lives with her. She celebrated each and every one of us. She was our greatest fan. For many years she hosted Sunday dinner for everyone at home. When she grew older, we enjoyed hosting Sunday dinner for her.
Mother especially enjoyed her many friends in two long standing bridge clubs, one from her high-school days and the other from the neighbourhood. They were a source of great joy and support during her life. Once the children were out of the house, mother continued to give back to the community by volunteering with the Shepherds of Good Hope. She was also an active member of the Catholic Women’s League for many years.
Mother loved reading. We could always count on finding her perched in her favourite chair with a litany of prayers in the morning and a good book in the afternoon.
We would like to thank our sisters Paula, Mary Anne and Kathy for their wonderful care and companionship to our dear Mom during her final months. Special thanks to Dr. Michael Ducey, nurse Jessy Staniszewski, and the Bayshore personal care workers.
In keeping with our mother’s wishes, there will be a private funeral mass for her family at St. Patrick’s Church, Fallowfield.
In Theresa Anne’s memory in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Foundation, the Shepherds of Good Hope, or a charity of your choice. Also remember to hug someone today. Mom loved hugs!
