Theresa Suttie MacKechnie

May 22, 1947 — Apr 2, 2026

Ottawa, Ontario - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Theresa "Tessa" Mackechnie Ranalli on April 2, 2026, with family by her side.

Tessa will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Giorgio Ranalli; her daughter Sasha and JF, and their children and grandchildren; her daughter Francesca and her children; and her son Lorenzo and Amanda, and their children.

Tessa was deeply loving. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother, who created magic and joy in the lives of those she touched. In her younger years, she played, coached and umpired field hockey, for which she won many awards including provincial recognition for building a skills development program for girls who would otherwise not have had the opportunity. In her later years she turned her energy and spirit to her lawn bowling club where she again took many awards and was instrumental in preserving and building the club, an important community gathering space. Tessa also had a deep love for Italy and cherished the time she spent there. Tessa had boundless energy and an irrepressible sense of humour, but what was essential in her was her kindness and consideration for others. To know her was to feel her care and compassion.

She is survived by her sisters and their spouses, Elizabeth and John McPherson, Anna Nicol and her late husband Eddiel, Kitty and Phil Seward, and Flo and Helmut Kuhnen, her brother Robert Mackechnie, her chosen sister Janet Hodgkinson, her brother-in-law Vincent McGee, her many nieces and nephews and their families and was predeceased by her sisters, Christine McGee and Sheena Mackechnie.

Tessa will be remembered for the love she gave, the life she lived, and the lasting place she holds in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed.

We will be celebrating Tessa’s life June 20th, 2026, at 1pm at Blackheath United Church, 2320 Haldibrook Road, Binbrook, Ontario. Reception to follow immediately after at the hall across the road.
