Teresa Pivar (née Maučec) passed away peacefully on January 13th 2026, in Ottawa, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Gančani, Slovenia, in 1934, Teresa was the daughter of Viktor and Ana Maučec. She moved to Canada in 1955 where she met her husband Josef and was instantly taken by his curly black hair and equally by his kind and teasing spirit.
Together, they built a life and raised a family in Montreal and then later moved to Ottawa. Teresa was a woman of deep faith and devoted love to her family, renowned for her kindness, strength, independence, generosity, and her legendary cooking. Teresa was predeceased by her husband Josef and her son Joe, her brother Jozef and her sisters Matilda and Antonia, and is lovingly survived by her daughter Maria (Denis), her grandchildren Justin (Leigh) and Nadia (David) and her three great-grandchildren Maebel, Oskar, and Sophie, whom she adored.
A viewing will be held at Tubman Funeral Homes 3440 Richmond Rd, Nepean, ON K2H 8H7 on January 22nd, 2026, from 10-11 am, followed by a service from 12-1 pm at her church at St. Philip Parish and St. Clare Mission, 127 Burke St, Richmond, ON K0A 2Z0 and a reception to follow in the church hall next door.
