Stuart Hitchcock

June 22, 1932 — May 5, 2025

It is with sadness that we announce the death of Stuart (Stu) Hitchcock at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on May 5, 2025, just short of his 93rd birthday.

Stu will be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews, and by his cherished friends, some of whom were his housemates for nearly 65 years.

Stu was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Ruth (Christie) Hitchcock, and his siblings Howard, Jack and Adele.

Stu was born on a farm in the Poplar Grove District near Langbank, Saskatchewan. He moved to Ottawa in 1954 where he began his long distinguished career working as an electronics designer with the Defence Research Board, later named the Communications Research Centre, especially designing components for space vehicles. Stu was a great curling enthusiast and enjoyed many a bonspiel as a member of the Huntley Curling Club, of which he was made an Honorary Life Member in 1990.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Carp chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 115 Rivington Street, Carp, ON, on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, with Visitation from 10 - 11 am, Memorial Service at 11 am, followed by a Reception until 2 pm.
