Stephen "Wayne" Westwell

Stephen Wayne Westwell, known affectionately to friends and family as Wayne, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025, at the age of 64, in Ottawa, Ontario. Born on September 27, 1960, in Ottawa, Ontario, Wayne grew up with an infectious zest for life that he carried into every endeavor.

Wayne is survived by his children, Jesse Westwell (Ashley) and Rebecca Westwell, his loving partner Joanne Eaglesham and her children, Corey Stacey (Melanie) and Craig Stacey, their furbaby Furgus, former wife and mother of their children, Janice Westwell, granddaughter, Quinn Westwell, siblings, Brenda Ashton (Doug), Rick Westwell (Ruth), Debbie Morin, and Greg Westwell (Brenda), and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. He is predeceased by his father, Leonard William Westwell, and Mother Shirley Nee Westwell.

Family was the cornerstone of Wayne's world. He was a loving father to Rebecca and Jesse, and a constant source of support and joy, instilling in them his optimistic outlook and appreciation for life. He was a devoted partner to Joanne, whom he adored and loved strongly, relishing in every shared laugh and walk with their furbaby Furgus. His role as Gampy to Quinn was one he cherished deeply, taking great delight in joining her world, and passing on his love for the great outdoors. Being the youngest of 5 children he gained much of his knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm for life from his beloved siblings.

Wayne's professional life was marked by his exceptional skills as a salesman. His colleagues often remarked on his ability to connect with people, his persuasive charm, and his unwavering integrity. Wayne’s career was more than just a job; it was a platform for him to meet a diverse array of individuals and to make a positive impact in their lives.

Beyond his professional life, Wayne was a man of many passions. His love for the outdoors was evident to all who knew him. Whether it was snowmobiling with friends, hiking through the wilderness, boating across Aylen Lake, riding through trails, or simply enjoying a barbecue with loved ones, Wayne embraced every chance to be active. These moments outdoors were not just hobbies but integral parts of who he was – an adventurous soul always seeking the next horizon.

Wayne will be remembered as a man who lived life to the fullest. His adventurous spirit, optimism, and loving nature were the threads that wove through every aspect of his life. Friends and family will carry with them the memory of his warm smile, his hearty laugh, and the way he could light up a room with his presence. He forged bonds that were strong and true, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

As we bid farewell to Stephen Wayne Westwell, we celebrate a life well-lived. His journey may have come to an end, but his spirit continues to inspire those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Wayne's story is one of joy, adventure, and love – a story that will be told for generations to come.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 19th, 2025, at Tubman Funeral Homes ~ Garden Chapel, 3440 Richmond Road, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, with words of remembrance at 2:30pm. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances be made in the form of contributions to the Ottawa Humane Society.
