It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Sally, who has left this world to continue her journey into the next.
Sally passed peacefully with close friends by her side over several days. She is predeceased by her mother, Agatha Floretta Brown and her brother, Vivian.
Sally leaves behind her nephew, Ian St. Lewis (Debra Newsham), great-nieces Michele (Lazlo Nagi) and Melanie St. Lewis, great-nephews Michael St. Lewis and Matthew St. Lewis as well as several great-grand-nieces and great-grand-nephews.
She also leaves behind a lifetime of wonderful memories and stories from her work as a Registered Nurse and midwife, as well as a life dedicated to the Canadian Red Cross, volunteering with many organizations including Harambe.
Sally touched countless lives through her dedication to helping people around the globe, wherever her profession took her.
Born and raised in Dominica, Sally went on to study nursing in the United Kingdom before beginning her career in Hamilton, Ontario. She later worked in the Northern Territories, where she spent many fulfilling years. Following that time, Sally embarked on a six-month journey across Canada with a friend, travelling by car and camping along the way. She then returned to her work in nursing and with Health Canada.
Through her work with the Red Cross, Sally travelled extensively, providing aid around the world. In recognition of her service, she was awarded the Order of the Red Cross in 2011, as well as a federal public service award for exemplary dedication.
A lifetime of awards and recognition never slowed Sally’s passion for helping others. Everywhere she went, she touched lives, won hearts, and built lasting connections. Words cannot fully express the depth of her compassion, her contributions, or the impact she made.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Hillel Lodge Retirement Residence for the exceptional care and kindness shown to Sally, especially during her final weeks.
A celebration of life will be held in early spring. Details will be shared with all who wish to attend, share stories, and celebrate Sally’s remarkable life.
