DOXEY, John

Feb. 18, 1936 – Oct. 9, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Doxey.  He passed away on October 9, 2023 at the age of 87.  Son of the late Kathleen Bailey and the late Bert Doxey.  Brother of Patricia and Brent.  Predeceased by Donald, Judy, Catherine, and Carl Lee.  Predeceased by his spouse Gratia Denis.  Father to Janet, Jo-Ann (the late Rob Berndt), George (Debra), Robert (Tina), Linda (Mike), and John Eric (Perrin).  Grandfather of Rebecca (Mika), the late Duncan, Lihz, Michael (Lora), Melissa (Garreth), Jessica (Josh), Victoria, Emily, Danielle, Bianca, Nicole (Nick), Amber, and Justin.  Great-grandfather of Mirabel, Mattias, Donnie, Jack, Evan, Brady, Liam, Emma, and Calvin.  John’s secret for longevity was having a good family.

He had many fond memories and adventures while growing up in Eastview-Ottawa along the Rideau River, and on a farm in the Shawville area.  After marrying Gratia in 1958, they raised their family on the Blanche River in Gatineau.  John worked in the retail industry with Sears in the Ottawa-Gatineau area, first as a department manager, then store manager, and eventually moving to Georgetown area to become an Eastern Regional Merchandise Manager then to Fonthill to run the St. Catherine Centre Store.  John took early retirement in 1991 and moved to Arnprior, before eventually settling on Preston Street, Ottawa. He enjoyed painting, woodworking, fishing, gardening, biking, and skiing.

There will be no visitation.  A memorial Mass will take place at the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Parish at 20 Grant Street (off Wellington St), Ottawa at 11AM on Saturday October 21 followed by light refreshments and then a private family interment.  No flowers please, donations to CHEO would be appreciated.
