It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Richard (Dick) Inwood on June 25, 2025, surrounded by family, following a prolonged battle with cancer.
Predeceased by his parents, Denis Laurence Inwood and Edith Mary Hodges Inwood, and his sisters Barbara Klatzo and Elizabeth Adams. Loving husband to Claire (née Tremblay), and cherished father to Christopher and partner Jed, and Joanne and husband Craig.
Richard started his career in the early 1950’s as a young rail yard signal operator, and rose to become a morse telegrapher with Canadian Pacific Rail. This allowed him to see much of Quebec, Ontario and Maine, confirming a lifelong love affair with all things train related, morse telegraphy and travel.
In 1960 Trans Canada Airlines (Air Canada) was looking for ticketing agents with rail experience. He quickly accepted the opportunity and loved his airline work, along with the new travel opportunities that came along with the job. Richard remained there until 1966 when his true passion for broadcast journalism came to fruition.
CFOM Quebec City was a small all-English radio station, housed in a tiny building bordering a swamp, broadcasting at a whopping 250 Watts. It wasn’t long before a return to his hometown of Montreal had him holding multiple broadcast roles at CFMB, CJFM, CJAD and CKGM.
October 1970 brought the FLQ crisis to Quebec and a new opportunity for Richard with the Canadian Broadcast Corporation. As a brand-new employee, Richard immediately jumped into the CBC broadcast environment, working 12-16 hour days. This cemented a 25-year career as a journalist with the CBC, broadcasting to Canada and the world on the Radio Canada International shortwave broadcast network.
The family would like to thank Dr. Aw at Ottawa General Hospital, and the West End Family Care Team, including Dr. Elizabeth Brown and Dr. Jason Hsu. And, most importantly, nurse practitioner Lisa R. Fournier, who took a remarkable personal interest in Richard, monitoring his health and well-being, and was at his side until the end of his life. Both Richard and the family appreciated and cherished the care and support provided.
