Eichhorn – Piet L.

Peacefully in hospital at Brampton on Saturday, April 8, 2023, age 91.  Beloved husband of the late Henriette (Heijnen).  Dear father of Pieter and father-in-law of Veronica. Loving grandfather of Chloe.

Born in Leiden, Netherlands in 1932, the youngest child of Johan Adam and Neeltje Eichhorn. After nautical college he decided his fortunes lay overseas and found a job with Royal Interocean Lines in Hong Kong and later Singapore.

In the late 60’s during Carnaval he saw a beautiful woman sitting on a park bench and immediately asked her to marry him. After a short engagement Piet and Hetty were married and travelled the world together. After 40 years at sea Captain Eichhorn decided to retire and moved to Manotick, Ontario where he lived for the next 30 years. Piet will always be remembered for his greater than life stories which amazed all that were around.

Friends may attend a visitation at the Kars Chapel of the Tubman Funeral Homes, 1610 Roger Stevens Dr., Kars on Friday, April 14th from 2:30 pm until time of memorial service in the chapel at 3:30 pm.
