Peter MacGowan

August 20, 1930 – July 20,2022

It is with great sadness that the family of George Peter MacGowan announce Peter’s passing on July 20, 2022 surrounded by his family. Peter was born on August 20, 1930 to Archer (Col., DDS) and Doris in Sydenham Ontario. Peter is survived by his brothers John (Linda) and Murray (Patricia) and his sons Ken (Susan), Mark (Marsha) and Daren (Andrea) his grandchildren Mike (Robyne), Brian (Brittni), Halden, Ethan and Quinn and his great granddaughters Elisabeth and Victoria. Peter spent his early years in Toronto before he moved to Ottawa where he met and married his high school sweetheart Joan (deceased 2001) and attended RMC and Carleton University to obtain his PEng. Peter’s professional life was working as an HVAC designer in the private sector as well as the federal government. The three boys made for a busy family life with many road trips and camping trips. Peter was a community volunteer in coaching sports, Hazeldean Lions Club and as a Cub Scout leader for many years in Glencairn. He also was involved in his church and quietly helped many less fortunate in the community without taking any credit. In his spare time he loved to work at home repair/construction as well as car collecting and repair. After Joan passed away he married Nellie (deceased 2019) and enjoyed many years travelling the world and back and forth to Vancouver to spend time with extended family. Peter enjoyed his time with friends at Stonehaven Manor and especially with his special friend Mary. The family would like to thank the kind staff at Stonehaven Manor, The Bruyere Hospital and The General Hospital. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
