Peter Edward Dodsworth

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Edward Dodsworth on the 26th of August, 2026 at Saint-Vincent Hospital in Ottawa.

Peter was born in 1959 in Etobicoke, Ontario to his parents the late John Dodsworth and Joan Dodsworth Ware. He was the second of three brothers (David Dodsworth (Joanne) and John Dodsworth (Jennifer Morin)). He was a long-time resident of Kanata and attended Stephen Leacock P.S. and Earl of March H.S.

Peter was a graduate of Queen's University where he obtained a degree in mechanical engineering (class of 1982). His accomplished career included time with the Government of Ontario, the Ottawa Board of Education (now the OCDSB) and the City of Ottawa where he contributed to many of its major infrastructure projects over the last 20 years. Outside of work, he loved to travel and visited many places in North America, the UK and Europe. Peter was a stalwart leader and mentor with Scouts Canada for many years. He planned and led camping trips with his Cub packs and Scout troops to places across Canada including Algonquin Park Ontario, Gros Morne Newfoundland, and Auyuittuq National Park Nunavut, among others. He planned camping trips in Algonquin Park with family creating very fond memories. He enjoyed golfing, skiing and scuba diving and was an aviation enthusiast. He held a private pilot's license and often took friends and family on flying tours of the city from the Ottawa Flying Club. He also enjoyed many mornings with friends at Bruce Pit walking with his dogs Scout and Bear.

Peter loved the challenge of building and repairing - his ability to solve just about any mechanical, household, or automotive problem was one of a kind. He was always quick to help family and friends with his experience and knowledge.

We would like to acknowledge the extraordinary care he received from the medical team at home which allowed him to remain there comfortably for as long as possible. We would also like to thank the amazing staff at the Ottawa Hospital, the Irving Greenberg Family Cancer Center and Saint-Vincent Hospital as well as family, friends and neighbours for their incredible support.

Peter leaves in mourning his wife Suzanne Lorraine Dodsworth, his three sons Edward, William, and John Dodsworth, daughters-in-law Virginia and Shantelle, and his two grandchildren, Liliana and Owen Dodsworth. He will also be missed by his extended family and everyone who knew him.

A private celebration of life was held with family members. Donations in Peter's name are welcomed to the Ottawa and Saint-Vincent Hospitals (Bruyère Health).
