Pat (Patricia) Clementine Hammer
Dec 1, 1922 – May 18, 2023
Pat Hammer (nee Doyle) went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Thursday May 18, 2023 in her 101st year at the home of her daughter, Elizabeth Ingraham. Predeceased by her husband of 53 years Albert in 2005, sister Cleora, and brothers Clifton, Kermit, and Sye.
Proud mother of Elizabeth (Gary) and John (Louise); Beloved Grandma to Sarin, Rebekah, Amber, Sam, Laura and Melissa; Cherished by her 10 great-grandchildren.
Born on a farm in the small town of Melbourne, Quebec, Pat travelled to Montreal during WWII to study and work as a nurse. There she worked off a registry, going into people’s homes as a private nurse. Moving on to Toronto, she nursed at the Hospital for Incurables, tenderly helping those who needed acute care. Meeting Albert and marrying, they started a family and eventually moved to Nepean, where Pat focused her efforts on raising a family. In time she joined Eaton’s, thriving as a Retail Sales Rep. in their ‘Small Electrics’ department. Following in her mother’s footsteps, Pat was an avid lifelong gardener.
It was while she was in Toronto that Pat came to know and accept God’s forgiveness and love in a personal way, setting her foundation on the Rock and Giver of Life. He was her source of strength, flowing into a life characterized by a thoughtfulness in noticing the needs of others and willingness to serve them with a glad heart. Her cheerful, energetic personality and love for life encouraged all who met and knew her.
She will be dearly missed by her wide circle of friends, family, and relatives.
In lieu of flowers, feel free to donate to a charity that would honour her memory. Some of the charities that Pat supported were: Operation Smile, World Vision, Canadian Bible Society, CNIB, OneBook, Covenant House, Hope and Healing Int’l, Child Evangelism Fellowship, Billy Graham Evangelistic Assoc., Mouth and Foot Painting Artists, Scott Mission, Operation Mobilization, Doctors without borders, Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, Ottawa InnerCity Ministries, Arthritis Society, Special Olympics Canada…
