It is with great sorrow and sadness that, after a courageous but short battle with cancer, we announce that Michelle McAvoy passed away on July 15th. Michelle is survived by her husband, Steve; her two children, Jorja and Audrey; her brother, Tom; and her niece and nephew. She is predeceased by her mother and her grandmother.
Michelle was a dedicated public servant who protected Canadians; both as an RCMP dispatcher and as a valued member of the management chain at Indigenous Services Canada where she played a major role in saving the lives of numerous children. Outside of her public service career, she was a trailblazing entrepreneur who provided sleep training advice to new parents. Her clients included many high-profile members of the Canadian government.
Michelle was first and foremost a devoted mother to her children, a cherished wife to her husband, and a beloved friend to many. Michelle’s kindness was matched only by her generosity with her time and compassion for others. She touched many lives throughout her brief time with us. As Michelle’s prognosis changed, she never once gave up hope. She fought with every ounce of her strength for her two children.
Her smile and sense of humour never failed to light up any room and her memory will be a comfort to many. Life is, and never will be, the same without her.
