1944 Michael 2025

Michael Allan Elliott

September 9, 1944 — December 28, 2025

Born in Ottawa on Sept. 9, 1944, Michael Allan Elliott was the son of Myfanwy Elliott and W.O.1 Michael J. McGuire, who was killed in a flying accident in 1944. In 1950, he was adopted by his stepfather, R.L. Elliott.

Despite his congenital disability, Michael graduated from the University of Windsor and then received a Master in Social Work from Carleton University. He worked for several social welfare agencies, including Big Brothers Big Sisters.

In retirement, Elliott was a president of the Ottawa-Carleton Association for Persons with Developmental Disabilities and an advocate for all those with disabilities.

On Nov. 10, 2023, a fire in his home in south end Ottawa killed his partner, Donna Bourasas and destroyed his house. He died in his sleep on Dec. 28, 2025 at Saint-Vincent Hospital in Ottawa.

He is survived by his siblings, Wendy Elliott, Wolfville, N.S., Ruth Elliott, Aldergrove, B.C. and Malcolm Elliott, Nelson, B.C. The family would like to thank all those who helped care for Michael in recent years.

A Celebration Of Life will occur on March the 7th, from 2 till 4 at Tubman Funeral Homes Garden Chapel, 3440 Richmond Road, (between Bayshore & Baseline Rd.) Nepean, Ontario.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Ottawa-Carleton Association for Persons with Developmental Disabilities.
