Mee Kleh passed away on October 7th at the age of 88. She left our world while surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at the Civic Hospital.
She was born on March 29, 1938, in a small village called Tah kou Duh, located deep in the mountains of Myanmar. Mee got married to Kyaw Htoo in 1962 at the age of 24. Her oldest child was born in 1963, her middle child in 1969, and her youngest in 1974. Farming was her livelihood in the mountains of Myanmar, and the same goes for her time spent in a Thailand refugee camp. She continued this lifestyle in Canada by growing vegetables and flowers in our small backyard. Her youngest son and his family came to Canada in 2006, quickly followed by herself and the oldest daughter’s family in 2008. Mee’s middle daughter and her family came to Albany, New York in 2014. This made my grandmother very happy because her kids and their families were able to see each other in person whenever they could. Mee Kleh loved to read and write the bible, and attended church every Sunday. She loved her family and greatly valued spending quality time together. She also loved to eat rice, asian snacks, drink jasmine tea, and the occasional coffee made by her oldest daughter or granddaughters. She remained strong willed and independent until her final moment.
Mee will be missed dearly and will continue to live on in our happy memories as a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
