It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Irene Bond (née Nevin) on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at the age of 96. Irene passed away surrounded by the love of her family and friends who cherished her dearly.
Irene was the beloved wife of the late George Bond. She is survived by her devoted daughter Paula (David), her beloved grandson Michael (Madeline), and her treasured great-grandchildren Isla and Jack. Her legacy of kindness, resilience, and compassion lives on in each of them.
After graduating from the Ottawa Civic Hospital School of Nursing (‘50B) and the University of Ottawa (‘58), Irene worked as a Public Health Nurse. Later, she worked as a librarian for the nursing school at the Civic, and then at the Woodroffe Library at Algonquin College. She approached both professions with integrity, warmth, and a deep sense of responsibility.
A true animal lover, Irene found joy and companionship in her dogs, who were always a source of comfort and happiness. Irene was also a passionate flower arranger, particularly in the art of Ikebana, where her creativity flourished. She found beauty in simplicity and shared her arrangements with friends, family, and community gatherings. In her later years, she enjoyed lawn bowling at the Highland Park Lawn Bowling Club, where she formed lasting friendships and embraced the camaraderie of the sport.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caregivers, companions and friends at Amica Westboro Park and Seniors Solution who supported Irene in her final months. Special thanks to Theresa, Kathy and Jennifer for their unwavering support, and to Nelson, who was a true friend to the end.
A private celebration of Irene’s life will be held at a later date. For those wishing, donations may be made to the Ottawa Humane Society in lieu of flowers.
