It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Ellen Rainboth at the age of 90. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Lynn (Peter), Ann (Glen) and Tom as well as her grandchildren Billie, Emma and Nora. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years Peter Leonard Rainboth, her son John and grandson Patrick. She will also be fondly remembered by her siblings, her numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and many dear friends. Mary was born at home on Mayfair Ave in Ottawa to her parents Jack and Dorothy Lamb. She attended St George’s Elementary and and Immaculata High School. Her intelligence and hard work earned her a scholarship at St Patrick’s College where she graduated with a BA in English. While studying at St Pat’s she met the love of her life, Peter Rainboth. They married in 1956 and started a family, living in Montreal and then in the Laurentians. Mary was a loving and nurturing mother to her four children ensuring that her family was active and well cared for. The family then moved to Aylmer, Quebec where she earned a BA with honours in Psychology at Carleton University. She later worked for the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute as an office manager. Mary and Peter retired to their beautiful dream home in Devonshire Park up in the Pontiac where Mary enjoyed gardening, curling and cooking. She was an adventurous soul who loved sailing and traveling. A kind and devoted grandmother, she made her grandchildren feel special and loved. Mary was someone who was generous with her time and energy. She was a bright and engaging personality sharing her many interests and zest for life with those around her as she strived to make our world a more humane place. Mary’s final years were spent at the Hazeldean Gardens Retirement Home. She took part in activities especially attending Happy Hour where she found her thrill dancing up a storm to some jazzy tunes. Mary’s family would like to thank all of the staff at Hazeldean Gardens for the loving care they provided to her especially in her final days.
