It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marge Larson (nee Cronkite), on Tuesday, October 7 in Ottawa at the age of 92, with her family by her side. Predeceased by her cherished husband of over 52 years, Lloyd Larson. Loving mother to Wayne (Susan Turanyi), Jackie Pierce (Ed Tye), and Valerie East. Devoted grandmother to Erik (Kathleen) and Tina (Decebal); Jennifer and Jessica (Candace); and Adam (Lisa), Rebecca (Matteo), Matthew (Rachel) and Sarah. Proud great-grandmother of Elli, Jay, Gepetto, Lars, and Eleanor. A dear sister, she will be fondly remembered by Pat Uthe (Jack) and Kathy McMillan (Wayne). Predeceased by siblings Fred (Mary), Ted (Carol), Mary (Doug), Nonnie and Murray (Cecile). Marge will be missed by her many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Born in Saskatoon, Marge was very proud of her Saskatchewan roots. She met Lloyd at the University of Saskatchewan, where she graduated with a degree in Nursing. As a public health nurse, she was extremely proud to have participated in the roll-out of the polio vaccine in Saskatchewan. After moving to Ottawa in 1958, Marge continued to practice as a hospital nurse while also participating in health research. Marge and Lloyd had an extensive social life and were involved in many activities, including assuming a leadership role in the Ottawa branch of the University of Saskatchewan Alumni Association. They were both nature lovers and active in hiking, dancing, singing, travelling, and playing card games. They hosted many parties at their home and enjoyed their time at the family cottage. Marge also volunteered with several organizations close to her heart, including Children at Risk and Ten Thousand Villages. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and she always looked forward to visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
We wish to express our immense gratitude to Dr. Farey and the entire staff at the Maplewood Retirement Community for their exceptional care and kindness over the last 8 years. A special thank you to the staff at the Ottawa Hospital for their compassion during this difficult time.
