Margaret Elizabeth Dougherty, 92, of Ottawa, passed away peacefully holding her children’s hands. Margaret was born on October 8, 1933 to James and Hazel Macfarlane in Ottawa. Margaret, after graduating from Glebe Collegiate high school, went on to pursue a career as a secretary. Margaret had a smile that lit up a room and she sparkled right to the very end of her life.
In 1962, she met Douglas and they wed in 1967 and had 2 children, Andrea and David. Margaret was a very fun and kind person, who had an adventurous spirit. She loved to travel. She and her sister in law Carol took their mothers to Europe in the 1950s. She also went island hopping in the Caribbean with her dear friend Elizabeth. She travelled as far as Taiwan to attend her son David’s wedding to May. In retirement, Margaret and Douglas spent winters in Vero Beach, Florida. Margaret also loved to walk, play bridge, go out for suppers with her family, spend summers at the cottage, and enjoyed martinis with an olive. But most of all, Margaret enjoyed being a wife and mother.
Margaret was predeceased by her beloved husband Douglas, her parents, James and Hazel, brothers James and John and sister-in-law Rona. Margaret is survived by her children, Andrea and David and daughter-in-law May, sisters-in-law Carol and Ruth and many nieces and nephews.
