Manfred Karl Ficker

With love we announce the passing of Manfred Karl Ficker, on October 17, 2025, at the age of 89 — a man who could build and fix anything and make it strong enough that “elephants could dance on it.”

It was a life well lived. Born in Schwarzbach, Germany, Manfred immigrated to Canada in 1949, where he built a beautiful life rooted in quiet determination. An engineer to the core, he spent his career at Bell Northern Research/Nortel, where he was a respected and inventive mind whose work generated several patents.

Manfred was happiest when in motion - flying his plane, tinkering with his cars, skiing, or enjoying the family cottage.

He leaves behind his beloved wife Joanne and daughters Monica (and Steve) and Christine (and Mike) and grandchildren Eric, Toby and Dani, who will remember him through shared stories, laughter, and the enduring strength of all he built.
