It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Luu Duong, on November 9, 2024, at the age of 92. Born in Saigon, Vietnam, on September 14, 1932, she passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones who cherished her deeply.
She was mother to her children: Way Fat Tran, Chuan Way Tran, Vay Hien Tran, Nghi Vay Tran, and Kiet Vay Tran. Her legacy lives on through her cherished grandchildren: Jenny Dao-D’Angelo, Winston Tran, William Tran, Hélène Tran, Christian Tran, Jennifer Nguy, Jackie Nguy, Tyler Nguy, and Cindy Nguy, and her great-grandchildren: Logan Dangelo, Lauren Dangelo, and Tyson Tran, who will all carry forward the light, love and goodness she brought into the world.
Luu was known for her radiant smile, always filled with positivity, happiness, and the silkiest hair that was as graceful as she was. A woman of remarkable faith and warmth, she was a devout Chinese Buddhist whose wise words were a source of comfort to all who knew her. She embraced life with a gentle spirit, often reminding her family, “Don’t worry, don’t keep it in your heart, Namo Amituofo,” a phrase that encapsulated her commitment to peace and kindness.
Luu had an adventurous soul and an enduring love for travel. Armed with speaking 7 languages fluently, she explored every continent and revelled in the beauty of the world. A lifelong learner and avid reader, she filled her days with stories from around the globe and wisdom from all walks of life. Her love for walking was as much a pursuit of health as it was a meditative ritual, a daily practice that kept her vibrant and centered throughout her years.
She adored animals, especially the cherished dogs that touched her life; Dragon Boy, Rocky, Tiffany, Birks, Thor, Trixie, Tyco and Hefner. Her love and kindness extended to every creature, as she would always sneak treats to the dogs despite everyone else’s protests. Her compassion knew no bounds, touching every walk of life.
Luu’s teachings of goodness, compassion, and resilience will live on through her family, who will carry forward her legacy of spreading kindness in the world. She will be remembered as a beacon of peace, love, and strength, a guiding light in her family and community.
