Louise Devine

September 2, 1942 — October 11, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that Louise Devine passed away peacefully at the Queensway Carleton Hospital on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at the age of 81.  Beloved wife of Donald Devine of 60 years.  Loving mother of James Devine (Marisa), Bonnie Caminiti (Domenic) and Ann Devine. Grandmother to Francesca Kazaka (Nicholas), Brenden Devine, Taylor Caminiti and Kierra Caminiti. She will be fondly remembered by her siblings Julie Boucher (Al), Frank Benoit (Lucille), Christine Fournier (late Myles), Teresa Sutcliffe (Daryl Davidson), Bernie Salewski (Paul), Bernard Benoit (Doris) and Danny Benoit as well as her many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Francis and Emma Benoit and infant son Reggie. We would like to thank the medical staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital for their exceptional care, compassion and dignity which they showed Louise and our family.

Louise was the second eldest of a large family of eight children. She grew up in Northern Ontario and moved to Ottawa to begin her career and married life. She worked as an x-ray technician at the Montfort Hospital and the Aylmer Clinic. She was exceptionally proud of her involvement in the medical field and frequently told people how x-rays worked “back in the day”. Despite her many medical challenges, she always found the good in every situation. She loved nature and frequently marveled at the beauty of the outdoors. We always knew she was amazed by her surroundings when she would exclaim a simple “wow” at the beauty of a landscape or the animals in the field. She passed her time reading, singing, completing her beloved crossword puzzles, scratching lottery tickets or enjoying an exciting afternoon of bingo fun.  If you were especially lucky, she would treat you to a favourite song or colourful joke. She believed in giving frequent and kind compliments to everyone who crossed her path because “it makes everyone smile”. Every little breeze really does seem to whisper Louise.

Memorial visitation will be held at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean (between Bayshore and Baseline Rd) on Thursday, October 19th at 11 a.m. followed by a service in the chapel at noon.  Interment will take place at Notre-Dame Cemetery Ottawa.
