Lois Wrightsell

June 22, 1945 — January 9, 2024

Lois Wrightsell passed away peacefully at St. Patrick’s Home in Ottawa on January 9, 2024.

Born June 22, 1945, to Herb and Jean Snowdon (deceased), Lois was raised in Calgary and later moved to Ottawa to work as a radiology technologist and raise her family. Loving wife to Tom, proud mother to Jennifer (Jeff Hughes), Jacqueline (Martyn Carver), and baby Michael (deceased). Doting Granny to Paul and William Hughes, Rhyanna and Rhys Carver. Cherished sister to Nancy Barr (Brian), James Snowdon (Debra), Donald Snowdon (Claire), and sister-in-law to Carol Valin (deceased), Roberta Wrightsell (deceased), Marilyn Wrightsell, Cheryl Wrightsell (Michael Manion), Darlene Borden (Greg), and Susan Wrightsell. Beloved aunt and ‘Granny Lo’ to many, adored by legions of friends and Westboro neighbours.

Lois was a beautiful person – kind, thoughtful, generous, and caring. Loving and genuine with a great sense of humour and infectious laugh, Lois had a gift for making those around her feel welcome and loved. Known for her delicious cooking, she was a gracious host, always happy to sit down with a loved one to share a cup of tea (or glass of wine) and a chat. There was always room for one more at her table.

A natural caregiver, Lois channelled her empathy into her long career at the Ottawa Hospital (Civic Campus). She then spent many wonderful retirement years making memories with Tom by her side – traveling south, hosting family dinners, and doting on her grandchildren.

Despite health challenges over the years, Lois was incredibly resilient, approaching every day with a radiant smile and positive outlook. She was the ultimate hockey granny, games enthusiast, and her daughters’ and grandchildren’s biggest supporter. Lois was the heart and soul of her family and will be greatly missed.

Friends and family are invited to gather at Tubman Funeral Homes-Westboro Chapel (403 Richmond Road, Ottawa) on Saturday, January 20, 2024, after 12 noon. A Celebration of Lois’ Life will be held in the chapel at 1 p.m., followed by a reception with light refreshments. For those unable to attend the service in person, a live stream link can be found below.
