Leroy Palmer

November 2, 1935 — August 27, 2025

With love and remembrance, we announce the passing of Leroy (Roy) John Palmer, who left us peacefully on August 27, 2025, in Ottawa, Ontario in his 90th year.

Born in Shawville, Quebec, Roy was the son of John Eric Palmer and Edith Beulah Palmer. He grew up with a deep appreciation for gardening which led him to work for Agriculture Canada for 37 years before retiring in Stittsville, Ontario. He was instrumental in the presentation of the Chrysanthemum show at the Arboretum for many years, a highlight that brought people together to appreciate the beauty of the season. He served as President of the North Gower Bowling League, played on the Agriculture Broomball League and served as Director of the Stittsville Civitan Club where his service and leadership made a lasting impact.

Roy was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, whose presence will be missed by all who knew him.

Roy is survived by his loving wife, Joan Palmer, and their three children, Carolyn Wiens, Allan Palmer (Kim Meehan) and Cayla Ireland (Joseph Ireland). He was predeceased by his cherished daughter Brenda Ann. Roy was a proud grandfather (Bumpa) to Jordan Wiens, Samantha Ireland and Paige Ireland and his love for them was evident in every moment they shared.

To those who knew Roy, he was a steady presence—always ready with a listening ear, a gentle laugh, or a helping hand. His kindness, generosity and dedication to his family and community left an indelible mark on those who knew him.

A Funeral Service will be held in the near future. Details will be updated on this page once available.
