Lela Anne Showell

It is with love, and gratitude for a life well lived, that our family announces the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Lela Anne Showell, on April 29th, 2026 at the age of 91.

Across nine decades, Lela witnessed a world of change yet remained steadfast in her faith and principles. Lela was a fun-loving and hard-working woman who was truly family focused throughout her life.

Lela was predeceased by her loving husband Neil in 1989, a loss she carried with strength. Throughout her life her three sons Mark (Joy), Robin and David (Catherine) remained at the centre of her world. She took immense pride in them, and her love for her family only grew stronger with each passing generation. Lela taught us to be honest, to stand our ground and never to lose our sense of self. Her absence will be deeply felt.

Lela will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Matthew Showell (Lacey), Sarah Showell (Eric), Thomas Showell, Alexander Showell (Marianne), Rosemary Showell and Monica Faria (Benjamin), and by her great grandchildren: Jaden, Grayson, Paityn and Lela.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Queensway Carleton Hospital for their kindness, support and care for Lela in her final days.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 7, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at Tubman Funeral Home Garden Chapel, 3440 Richmond Road. Lela's funeral will be held at the same location on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 11:00am. Guests are invited to stay to join the family for a light luncheon. Interment at Iroquois Point Cemetery to follow.
