With full hearts and deep sadness, the family of Lois Charles announces her passing on November 6, 2025, after a short illness.
Beloved wife of the late Gordon Charles (2008), Lois was a devoted and steady presence in the lives of her children: David, Michael (Caitlyn McKenzie), and Elizabeth (Kyle Hurtubise). She took immense joy in being “Nana” to Zackary, Delaney, and Sullivan, who brought light to her days.
Lois was predeceased by her sister, Toni Williams, and will be dearly missed by her sister, Carol Anne Jamieson, and her cousin, Greg Shannon (Allison Reynolds). She also leaves her brothers- and sisters-in-law, John Saykali, Mary Ann Brito (Carlos), and Helen Saykali, as well as many nieces and nephews who cherished her warmth: Jessica and Ben Williams; Paul and Katherine Henning; Adriana Ebell and Jordan Brito. She was a proud Great Aunt to Jordan Larkin; Andrew, Olivia, Victoria, and Jack Henning; Scarlett Walsh; Tyler and Marielena Ebell; and Bentley Brito.
Her lifelong friend, Judy Kelly, mourns the loss of a confidante whose kindness and humour shaped decades of shared memories.
Born in Ottawa on March 23, 1948, to Alfred and Mary Kuntz, Lois spent her early years in Low, Quebec, before returning to Ottawa. A graduate of Woodroffe High School and Ottawa Teachers’ College, she began her career as a teacher, work she loved, before devoting herself to raising her family. She and Gordon married in 1966 and built a warm and welcoming home together in Nepean.
Lois had a generous spirit and spent many years volunteering with La Leche League Canada, offering support, encouragement, and a listening ear to a great number of new mothers and their babies. Her empathy and steady guidance touched countless families.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Tubman Funeral Homes, Garden Chapel, 3440 Richmond Rd., Nepean. The celebration will also be live streamed on their website.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to La Leche League Canada.
