Karen Johanna Aylwin (July 4,1945- January 20, 2026) passed away peacefully in her much loved home at the age of 80. Predeceased by her beloved twin sister Ingrid MacRae (Malcolm MacRae) and her nephew Douglas MacRae (Marie-Anne MacRae). She will be fondly remembered by her nieces Karen MacRae (Andrew Turner), Heather MacRae (Martin Steinke) and her nephew Duncan MacRae ( Stephanie Coombes) as well as her grandnephews Connor MacRae, Thomas MacRae and grandniece Emily MacRae.
Karen faced many challenges in her life including the death of her parents while she was still a child. Through many health issues including an inoperable brain tumour she persevered, always facing life's challenges with strength and determination.
Among many things she will be remembered for her beautiful hand knit sweaters and her lovely hand dyed scarves, but most of all she will be remembered for her devotion to her family and her many friends. Karen formed many cherished lifelong friendships, especially during her long career at Metlife, and at Barrhaven United Church. Her family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the many friends who were always there for her and who helped Karen through difficult times.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Tubman Funeral Homes Garden Chapel 3440 Richmond Rd, Nepean, ON. February 28th, 2:00-4:00 with Words of Remembrance at 2:30.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.
