It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Justin Newsom on July 8, 2023 at the age of 37. He passed away peacefully at the Queensway Carleton Hospital after a tragic accident. He leaves behind his loving mother Dale Weber, his stepfather Don Weber, loving father Peter Newsom, his stepmother Jackie Crichton, his loving grandmother Annie Wiebe, and his partner Tess Frémont-Côté. He was surrounded by a group of great friends that he has known since his public-school and high-school days.
Justin was very active, playing golf, softball, volleyball, and hockey, as well as skiing and hiking with friends. He was also an accomplished musician, playing bass guitar and jamming with friends and some of his father’s bands. Justin graduated with honours from the Television and Broadcasting program at Algonquin College. He was an excellent camera man for several years and was well liked by those who worked with him for his good nature and willingness to take on anything. More recently, Justin earned a bachelor’s degree with honours in Information Technology from Algonquin College, and after graduating was employed by Shared Services Canada.
Justin was known to have a solid character and was a go-to guy among his friends. He was also affectionately known as a “kind and gentle giant” and will be greatly missed by all those who came to know him.
A memorial service will be held at the Ottawa Mennonite Church, 1830 Kilborn Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario on Friday July 21, 2023 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Queensway Carleton Hospital.
