It is with great sadness we share news of the peaceful passing of Jules Joseph Georges LeBel, B.A., B.Sc.A., M.Sc.A., D.Sc.A., P.Eng., Ph.D., Research Scientist, on April 21, 2023, after a long struggle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). He leaves to mourn his wife, Françoise, 2 sons, Philippe and Sebastien, and 2 grandsons, Alexandre and Daniel.  Jules is also remembered by his brother Jean LeBel (Ginette). He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Jules was born in Montreal on January 23, 1933, the son of the late Philippe-Auguste LeBel and Angélina LeBel (née Payette).  He attended the the Université de Montréal, and the École Polytechnique de Montréal where he received a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Applied Sciences, Master of Applied Sciences and Doctorate of Applied Sciences. He began working in Ottawa for the Communications Research Centre in 1972, where he remained until retiring with over 40 years of service. As a researcher, he supported many different programs during his career and presented at international conferences. He also taught classes at the University of Quebec in Outaouais.

Jules was an avid photographer, downhill skier and a student of history. Jules loved to travel and  learn new languages.  He cherished time with the family and was always available for family events. He will be remembered as a loving and supportive husband and caring father. Special thanks to the relatives and friends who were supportive throughout his illness and the staff at Extendicare Medex, Champlain LHIN, Bayshore Health for their unending compassion and empathy.

Friends and family may pay respects at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean, on Friday, April 28, 2023, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm and on Saturday, April 29, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the chapel at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow.  In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate donations to the PSP Society of Canada.  Tributes, donations and condolences may be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com
