Joseph Louis Dennis Martin

June 22, 1960 — May 22, 2026

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Joseph “Louis” Denis Martin - son, brother, uncle, friend - on May 22, 2026, at the age of 65.

Born on June 22, 1960, in Toronto, Louis moved with his parents to their home province of New Brunswick in 1976, where he would graduate from James M. Hill Memorial High School. Following his graduation from the Electronics Program at the New Brunswick Community College Moncton Campus, he moved to Ottawa where he would spend the next 38 years working in the technology sector, finishing with Nokia. Before and following his retirement, Louis spent many years volunteering for the Kidney Foundation of Canada, serving as President of the Easter Ontario Chapter for several years.

Louis is survived by this Mother Exina Martin, sister Dianne (Stewart), brother Bernie (Helene) and brother Blair (Deborah), nephews and nieces Adam, Justin, Drew, Keith, Ellis, Dana, and great nieces and nephews Ella, Noah, Austin, Liam, Trevor and Lewis. He is preceded in death by his Father Lionel Martin.

Louis’ favourite place was the family cottage built by his parents at Gardiner Point, New Brunswick in 1971, where so many wonderful memories with family and friends were developed over the years. He would never tire of boating along the east shore of Miramichi Bay and Bay du Vin Island in the family dory, fishing for lobster and mackerel, digging clams and shore fires.

To know Louis was to know someone dependable, compassionate, and genuine. He appreciated life’s simple pleasures — good conversation, time spent with loved ones, familiar places, and moments that brought people together. He approached life with resilience and grace, meeting challenges with determination and dignity.

Above all else, Louis treasured his family and dear friends. He was deeply proud of those he loved and found his greatest happiness in the connections he shared with them. His love, laughter and friendship will remain a lasting gift to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Louis leaves behind family and friends who will miss him dearly and remember him always with love and gratitude. Though his passing leaves a profound void, his memory lives on in the countless stories, and moments he shared throughout his life.

The family would like to express sincere thanks to Dr. Martin and the team in the Acute Monitoring Area of the Ottawa Civic Hospital who offered care, support, and kindness during Louis’ final days.

Louis will be buried at Saint Andrews Cemetery in Loggieville, New Brunswick on September 26, 2026. A reception will follow at the Gardiner Point family cottage.

Louis will also be remembered by his friends and family at a celebration of his life in Ottawa.

In his memory, those wishing to honour Louis are encouraged to donate to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.

Forever loved, forever remembered.
