Biro, Dr. John Endre

April 25, 1940 – January 25, 2022

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Dr. John Endre Biro on January 25, 2022, at the age of 81. John is survived by his loving wife, Joan Lacelle, his children, John Biro Jr. (Pamela Gray) and Chantal Biro (Andreas Schad), his stepdaughters, Lisa Haime (Kevin Haime) and Lynne Bennett (Stephen Brown), his sister-in-law, Ruth Lebreton (Robbie Lebreton), his cousin, Richard Szabo (Beth Szabo), his goddaughter Jolanda Biro (Marco Spelten) and his beloved grandchildren, Jake, Jackson, Zsuzsika, Quinn, Wolfgang and Madeleine. Born and raised in Windsor, Ontario to hard-working immigrant Hungarian parents, János and Margit Biro (Szabo), he was very proud of his Hungarian heritage. He loved cooking Magyar dishes and listening to Hungarian music and composers.

Upon graduation from the University of Ottawa School of Medicine and in his capacity as an Officer in the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve, John served two years working at the National Defense Medical Centre (NDMC) before co-founding the Queensway Medical Centre in 1970. John led an impressively long career as a general practitioner retiring from medicine at the age of 77.

Throughout his adult life, when John was not on the golf course or bringing home more items from a Canadian Tire store, he could most definitely be found reading stacks of medical journals and novels on his favourite lazy boy chair or fiddling around his workshop trying to modify some household appliance or “inventing” some new gadget no one would ever use. In both cases, lots of Velcro, a hot glue gun and tongue depressors were involved!

John’s love and pride for his family was evident to all those who crossed his path. He will be profoundly missed by family and friends, but we are comforted by the fact that he has led a full life, surrounded by a loving blended family.

The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to either The Mission or to the University of Ottawa Brain and Mind Research Institute.

Nyugodj békében John.  Rest in peace John.
