Johanna Elizabeth Maria Van Kessel

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Johanna (Annie) Elizabeth Maria Van Kessel (née Jacobs), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Surrounded by her loved ones, Annie passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, in Ottawa, Canada, at the age of 82.

Born on September 12, 1943 in Den Bommel, Netherlands, Annie was the cherished daughter of Maria and Leo Jacobs. She later made her home in Canada, where she built a beautiful life and family with her loving husband, Gerry Van Kessel.

Annie will be forever remembered by her children: Janine Van Kessel (Patrick Clarke), Vanessa (Lucas) Talbot, Stefan (Susan) Van Kessel, and Karl (Annick Dutil) Van Kessel. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Zoe, Haley, Jacob, Alison, Skyler, Quinn, Xavier and Charlotte.

Her passion for the arts was reflected in both her studies and her work. Annie studied at the Académie de Couture in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and later at the Ottawa School of Art, where she graduated from the Intensive Studies Program. An artist at heart, Annie expressed her creativity through painting, gardening, and her love of flowers. She was known for her generosity, hospitality, and exceptional cooking, always ensuring family, friends, and guests had more than enough to eat. Her warmth and kindness left an imprint on everyone who knew her.

Annie’s life was a testament to love, generosity, and creativity. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Visitation will be held at Tubman Funeral Home Garden Chapel, 3440 Richmond Road, Ottawa, on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Memorial Service will take place in the Chapel on Friday, October 3, 2025 at 11:00am. Reception to follow.
