Joan Patterson

August 6, 1939 — December 25, 2023

Joan Patterson, nee Campbell, peacefully passed away at her retirement residence on Christmas morning, at the age of 84 years.  Joan was born in Malta on August 6, 1939 but grew up in Hebburn (Newcastle) England.  Joan was predeceased by her baby brother Paul, her mother Maude, and her husband George Minaker (2012).  Joan and her first husband Bob moved to Canada in the early 1960s. They spent some time in New York City then purchased their first home in the Toronto area.  They settled in Ottawa in the 1970s, and spent two years in England in the late 1970s and another two years in Sarnia in the early 1980s. Joan was an excellent and efficient secretary and spent the latter days of her career on Parliament Hill. Joan was known for her outgoing, vivacious personality; one adjective never used to describe her was boring.  She spent some happy years in retirement with George at their lovely home on the Rideau River in Manotick. She is survived by her beloved children Keith and Lesley and her grandchildren Liam (Harper), Maeve, Julian, Zachary, Aiden, and Coen.  She is also fondly remembered by her brother Ian Campbell and his wife Cathy in Alton, Hampshire, England.  Cremation has taken place and a small family service will be held in the spring.

In memory of Joan, donations to The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County would be greatly appreciated by the family.
