Archibald, E. Joan

In sadness we announce the quiet passing of E. Joan Archibald on March 7, 2024 at Groves Park Lodge, Renfrew, Ont. Joan was a loving mother, lifelong gardener, and world traveler. Born in 1931 in Renfrew (James and Mary Campbell, Glasgow, Scotland), she moved to Ottawa in 1952 to marry John C. Moulton (1930-1975), working in a number of federal government departments, and finishing up at the Auditor General of Canada. Joan remarried William F. Archibald (1908-1998) in 1983, and traveled extensively with him. Joan lived in Ottawa west until 2022, before moving to long term care in Groves Park Lodge.

Joan leaves her children David, Shirley, Steven (Cheryl Turner), and Chris (Kathleen Kelly) to miss and remember her. Her grandchildren Kiley, Pamela and Michael will have many stories and photos to cherish in years to come. Joan is predeceased by her siblings Arthur (Doris Campbell), James, Florence (Nick Caldwell), and Isabel (Phil Vincent).

Our mother also enjoyed cross country skiing and worked on jigsaw puzzles for hours at a time! She was very involved in the congregation of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Ottawa, and the Quota Club, Ottawa Chapter. Joan enjoyed her friendships and activities and appreciated the welcome and assistance she received from them in her later years.

Joan traveled to almost every country in the world, collecting curios, photos and many stories. She enjoyed traveling to Scotland, visiting relatives in Aberdeen and Inverness, remembering them fondly. She kept up her garden for as long as she could, then hiring gardener Eedie Wallace to return the flower beds to their former glory. She enjoyed all the cards, visits and phone calls she received whilst at Groves Park Lodge, and our heartfelt thanks go to the staff there for their loving care of our mother.

Family and friends may pay their respects at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road (between Bayshore and Baseline Rd.,), Nepean on Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 9:30 until time of Memorial Service at  11 a.m.  Interment at Pinecrest Cemetery next to our father, Jack Moulton, to follow. Donations may be made in Joan’s memory to the Renfrew Victoria Hospital Foundation, whose staff provided such excellent care. We thank everyone for their kind words of condolence, as we celebrate a life well lived.
