Jean (Sheena) Heslop

Heslop, (Sheena) Jean Moira (nee Begg)

passed peacefully away at age 93 after a short illness at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, Ottawa, Ontario on Monday, April 3, 2023, with her family by her side.

Sheena was born in 1929 in Dumbarton, Scotland, to Annie and Charles Begg.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband James Percy of Sunderland, England, in 1992.  While she and Jim travelled the world together, after stops in Toronto and Montreal, Nepean was home for most of their lives.

Sheena is lovingly remembered by her children, Derek (Karen) of Edmonton AB, Heather Dancer, Caroline (Dean) of Ottawa ON, Kevin (Julie) of Fredericton NB, and Adrienne (Phil) of Sydney BC;  grandchildren Katya, Robin, Megan, Aaron, Ryan, Courtney, Zacchary, Hailey, Emma, Brynn, Alaina, Kylie; great-grandchildren Kyle, Connor, Amy, Dylan, Artair; sister Gertrude McLellan and family in Courtney BC, and brother Charles Begg and family in Melbourne, Australia.

We wish to acknowledge the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSDCS) in Ottawa for the lifetime of friendship and joy they gave our parents and for every evening they cheerfully danced together.

We also offer our thanks to the nurses and doctors on Floor D3 at Queensway Carleton Hospital for their care and kindness.  They gave our mother the best of care and attention and we deeply appreciate this.

In lieu of giving flowers, we encourage Mom’s friends to support those in need by donating to a charity that cares for animals, such as The Ottawa Humane Society or an animal rescue of your choice, or to one that that cares for people with dementia, such as The Dementia Society, Ottawa and Renfrew County.  We thank you for these kind gestures.

Family and friends are invited to a reception to celebrate Sheena’s life from 3-5 pm on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Home, 3440 Richmond Road (Between Bayshore and Baseline Rd, Ottawa).
