Jim Patterson

April 17, 1937 — August 7, 2023

Passed peacefully at home surrounded by family at 86 years of age.

Loving husband of Lynne Boyd for 59 years. Dear and super proud dad to Kathy and Jo Patterson, father-in-law to Andrew Seely, grandfather (Bub) to Phoebe and Ruby Seely. Cherished brother-in-law  to Wendy and Jeff Threader and Wayne and Val Boyd. Great Uncle Jimmy to Jenn and Matt, Jessica and Kenneth. Constant companion to Golden Retriever Ben.

Born in London Ontario, only child to Malcolm and Thelma Patterson. Jim moved to Ottawa in 1950 and attended Fisher Park High School. He was employed by Sperry Gyroscope and subsequently formed Carleton Customs Services in 1974. He ran the business with his wife Lynne until his retirement at age 53.

He was a long-time resident of the Briargreen community and contributed in many ways. He was President of the community association, a softball coach, and loved being Santa Clause at the annual Christmas party. He could also be seen zooming around the neighbourhood in his red convertible Fiat sports car. He was a devoted member of St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church-PYPS Synod President, member of Session and Board of Managers. He was a soup maker extraordinaire for the annual church food fair.

Jim loved making wine to be shared at their annual Christmas Open house. One of his favourite hobbies was his model N-scale railroad. He was a very loud season ticket holder of the Ottawa Roughriders (South side sucks). He was an avid golfer at Amberwood Golf Club. Jim enjoyed many trips abroad, but he loved the open road with Lynne most of all.

Later in life, he became a voracious reader and iPad user. He was a master organizer and the creator of multiple MacGyverisms.

Most of all, he was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and he will be greatly missed.

Many thanks to the Palliative Care team for the wonderful care over the last month. A Celebration of Life to follow at a later date. Donations can be made to The Ottawa Mission.
