James Edward McLaughlin

It is with great sadness that the family of James “Jim” McLaughlin announces his passing on October 11, 2025, at the age of 90.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Monika; his children, Heidi and Mark; and his cherished grandsons, Zack and Lukas.

Born on March 20, 1935, Jim dedicated much of his professional life to Algonquin College, where he served as a director. He was widely respected for his leadership, mentorship, and deep commitment to education and community.

Outside of his career, Jim was an avid hockey player and enjoyed working on cars. He could often be found in his garage, happily immersed in a repair project listening to classical music. Above all, he will be remembered for his kindness, empathy, and his constant willingness to lend a hand.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Tubman Funeral Home, Garden Chapel, 3440 Richmond Road, Ottawa from 10a.m. to 12p.m. with words of remembrance at 10:30a.m.. Family and friends are invited to gather and share memories of Jim, whose warmth, humour, and generosity touched so many lives.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
