James Albert Kent

James Albert Kent, age 94, passed away on May 30, 2026, at Perley and Rideau Veteran’s Health Centre, where he had resided for many years.

Born on March 31, 1932, to Mrs. Ellen Kent and Mr. David Kent in Eston, Saskatchewan, James, or Jim as he was known, grew up with four siblings to keep him company and share in the country life of Saskatchewan. He graduated from his one-room schoolhouse in 1950 and went on to study at the University of British Columbia as a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He completed his university studies in Seattle, married, and then moved back to British Columbia.

Jim worked his way up through the ranks at the Government of Fisheries and Oceans, retiring as Assistant Deputy Minister of the Great Lakes division after 39 years of service. Outside of work, he spent many of his years in BC beekeeping in his spare time. Once he and his family moved to Ontario, Jim’s interest shifted more to gardening and maintaining the riverside property with his wife Gayle in Manotick.

Jim is survived by his four children Murray, Blair, Ian, and Stephanie, his seven grandchildren Dynielle, Kelsey, Megan, Alexandra, Murryn, William, and Keilor, and his six great-grandchildren Piper, Dexter, Hunter, Orion, Alek, and Axel. Jim was predeceased by his wife Gayle, who passed away at age 86 in November of 2021.
