It is with love and gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Helen, who departed this world on June 24, 2025, at the age of 95. Helen was known for having a song for everything, baking with love and making friends wherever she went. She was a devoted wife to the late Charles Perkins, a loving mother to Jim (Ginette), Mary (Glen) and Tom (Cheryl), a proud Grandma to Charles, William, Michael, Jennifer, Philip, Robert, Jake and Annie and G.G. to Callie, Caden, Brynn, Jade, Mason, Vienna, Jamieson, Maddison and a loyal friend to anyone lucky enough to cross paths with her. She is now reunited with her parents, William and Cora, and her siblings, Cliff (Marg), Marie (Stewart) and Allan (Pat). In her 95 years, Helen wore many hats: she was a Registered Nurse for nearly 40 years, a volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society for 45 years, a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, Health Partners and a fun-loving member of the Red Hat Society and Current Affairs. Helen had a sense of adventure at an early age when she set off from the small town of Cannington to pursue her career in nursing. She worked and trained in New Jersey, Lindsay, Wawa, Sault Ste Marie and Ottawa. Helen was passionate about nursing and her desire to help people extended beyond the professional side. Helen truly made the world a better place and showed us how to live with grace and a good sense of humour. Helen and Charles raised their 3 children, played and worked in Lindsay, Ont., Lewisporte & Corner Brook Nfld, Hawk Junction, Wawa, Sault Ste Marie and Ottawa, Ont.
A service to celebrate Helen’s remarkable life will be held on September 6, 2025, at 10:00 am at Knox United Church, 25 Gibbard Ave, Nepean, ON K2G 3T9. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen’s name can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society - or just raise a glass, share a good story, and be kind to someone, which is exactly what Helen would have wanted. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered, forever walking on the “Sunny Side Of The Street”.
