It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Luella Bourgeois (nee McLean), who passed peacefully at home on May 12th 2025, at the age of 97.
Born on October 28th, 1927, Helen was the eldest daughter of the late Albert McLean and Rebecca (nee Cochrane), and devoted sister to the late Lyall (Mary). Helen leaves behind her husband and soulmate Roger, son Paul (Dorothy Ann), daughters Cheryl (Bill Satnik), and Carmel. She was a proud Grandma to her 6 Grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren, and a reluctant Grandma to her Grand cats. She will be fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews and extended family.
Married to Roger for almost 78 years, they lived in Ottawa, Chilliwack, Churchill and Kingston, before finally settling in Richmond, Ontario in 1969. She enjoyed travelling and camping with the family, and spent many years Square Dancing, gathering life long friends along the way.
Helen loved her family and her happiest moments were times spent with them. Helen was known as a gifted baker and hostess. She hosted memorable homecooked meals for friends and family, and she was especially known for her freshly baked buns and butter tarts. We will miss her sharp wit and sense of humour, but especially her generous heart and quiet presence.
We would like to thank all the staff at Stirling Park Retirement Home and Bayshore Home Health Care for the incredible care and kindness they provided to Helen.
Visitation will be held at Tubman Funeral Home Garden Chapel, 3440 Richmond Road on Tuesday, May 27th 2025, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, with Funeral Mass to be held at St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Richmond, on Wednesday, May 28th at 11:00am. Reception to follow in the Church Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or Hospice Care Ottawa in memory of Helen.
