Graeme Andrew Greenleaf

November 24, 1972 — April 20, 2025

Graeme Andrew Greenleaf passed away unexpectedly on Sunday April 20, 2025, at the age of 52, at his home in Ottawa, Ontario. He is lovingly remembered by his mother Iza, father Brian, sister Kirsten, brother-in-law Dickson, nieces Zofia and Rose, cat Junior, aunts Sandra and Inge, as well as his cousins and friends. He was predeceased by long time friend and companion Gail Edwards.

Graeme attended Earl of March High School and West Carleton High School, after which he moved to Peterborough where he lived for about 30 years. He loved his apartment on Boswell Avenue, and all his neighbours. While in Peterborough, Graeme pursued jobs in restaurant kitchens, eventually working his way up to front-of-house as a bartender and server. Working in kitchens fueled his innate talent for crafting unique flavors in his cooking. He was always able to create delicious meals just out of his head, and loved sharing this food with his friends and family.

Graeme will be remembered as a kind person who was dedicated to taking care of people, animals, and plants. He had many cats throughout his life—Gnitz, Willie, Louise, Lil Debbie, and Junior—all of whom he loved deeply. Graeme’s energy was truly unmatched—creative and funny, he was always able to bring smiles to people’s faces, even those he did not know very well. From playfully joking with his nieces about who is the “silliest nut”, to plotting his squirrel empire in Kanata, Graeme brought light and life into every place he inhabited. His sense of humour and wonderful cooking will be missed by all who were touched by his presence.

Thank you to the Ottawa Police and Investigating Coroner for your kindness and compassion.

A celebration of life will be held in June; details on the event will follow; if there are any inquiries, please email kirsten.greenleafrmt@gmail.com.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cat Rescue Network Ottawa in Graeme’s memory.
